BR Index : the KPI for GAIO

A reliable index to check its visibility with generative artificial intelligence agents!

With the advent of AI-based searches integrating LLMs (Large Language Models) such as ChatGPT, Bard, or Perplexity, online visibility increasingly depends on a website’s ability to meet the expectations of these new tools.

In this context, traditional SEO methods are showing their limitations. The BR Index was created to address this gap and provide a reliable, actionable measure of a site’s performance against AI agents’ criteria and generative search experiences (SGE).

While traditional SEO practices remain relevant, they are now insufficient for aligning with the expectations of AI language models. These models favor criteria such as structured data quality, contextual consistency, and semantic readability.

The BR Index was designed to meet these new standards and offer a precise diagnosis that allows sites to adapt to these requirements.

The goal of this index is clear: to provide a structured methodology enabling businesses to know exactly where they stand and which levers to pull to optimize their presence in AI-generated results.

How does the BR Index work?

The BR Index is based on a rigorous methodology that evaluates over 20 weighted indicators. These indicators measure a site’s performance in technical, structural, and editorial areas.

Indicators: Each criterion has been selected based on its relevance to AI agents’ algorithms. Among these are:

  • Technical performance, such as loading speed and data structure.
  • Content quality, with criteria like information freshness, keyword density, and the use of structured tags.
  • External signals, including backlinks or presence on recognized platforms.

Dynamic weighting: Each indicator is assigned a specific weight, adjusted according to fast-evolving AI algorithm trends.

These weightings are regularly updated based on our research, as well as collaborations with SEO and GAIO (Generative AI Optimization) experts. For instance, part of the weighting is based on research from Lyon-based academics.

This aspect of our project is intended to be “open.” Feel free to share your own research and work to contribute to our ongoing discussions.

Calculating the BR Index: Each indicator is scored, and a weighting is applied to each score to reflect its importance. The total score is normalized on a 100-point scale for easy, coherent, and adaptable reading.

How to use the BR Index?

To find out a site’s BR Index, you need to use BotRank.ai’s analysis tool. It only takes a few seconds to get a detailed diagnostic.

Interpreting the results:

  • High score (80–100): The site is optimized for AI and enjoys excellent potential visibility.
  • Medium score (50–79): Solid foundations, but targeted improvements are needed to reach full potential.
  • Low score (0–49): Your site risks going unnoticed by AI agents.

The BR Index evolves with your site and with AI engine algorithms. Thanks to the tracking (history) feature, you can compare your scores over time and measure the impact of your optimizations.

Why is the BR Index a reliable reference?

This index is based on real data: each criterion relies on in-depth studies and empirical tests.

Its evaluation is comprehensive. Unlike standard tools, the BR Index covers not only technical performance but also editorial relevance and external authority signals.

It is also an index that benefits from continuous updates. As AI algorithms evolve, the weighting of criteria and calculation methodologies are adapted to ensure ongoing relevance.

The BR Index should not be viewed merely as a metric—it is a strategy. By using this tool, you gain expert analysis and a clear framework to adapt your site to the AI ecosystem.

Thanks to its evolving and collaborative approach, BotRank makes the BR Index an essential standard for thriving in the AI era.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

You have questions, we have answers.
What is the BR Index?

The BR Index is a score designed to measure a website’s performance against AI optimization (GAIO) criteria. It takes into account technical, structural, and editorial factors, as well as external signals such as backlinks and social proof.

What is the difference between the BR Index and a classic SEO score?

While a traditional SEO score assesses a site’s optimization for standard search engines, the BR Index also focuses on visibility in AI agents’ results, particularly generative ones. Structured data, contextual clarity, and alignment with language model algorithms play a more significant role here.

How is the BR Index calculated?

The BR Index is based on more than 20 weighted indicators that evaluate various aspects of your site (technical performance, content optimization, external authority, etc.). Each indicator is assigned a specific weight, and the overall score is normalized on a 100-point scale.

My site already has good SEO. Do I really need to measure my BR Index?

Yes. Even though good SEO remains important, AI agents (ChatGPT, Bard, Perplexity, and others) consider specific criteria like semantic structuring, content coherence, and the ability to answer conversational queries. The BR Index helps you measure these critical aspects for the future of online visibility.

How can I improve my BR Index?

You can optimize several levers:

Technical: Improve loading speed, optimize data structures (schemas, meta tags, etc.).

Content: Produce high-quality, up-to-date content that specifically addresses questions (conversational queries).

Authority: Strengthen your inbound links (backlinks), increase your presence on recognized platforms, and build trust signals for AI agents.

Accessibility: Ensure your site is easily interpreted by AI bots (semantic HTML, ARIA tags, etc.).

How often should I check my BR Index?

It’s recommended to reevaluate your BR Index after every significant update to your site or content, and at least once per quarter. Since algorithms evolve very quickly, regular monitoring helps you maintain a competitive edge.

Can I compare my BR Index over time?

Yes. Our analysis tool tracks your score history, allowing you to see how it changes over time and measure the impact of the optimizations you make.

Is the BR Index tool compatible with other analytics tools (SEO, analytics, etc.)?

Absolutely. You can use the BR Index alongside tools like Google Analytics or SEO platforms. It provides a specific perspective focused on AI optimization, which can be cross-referenced with other performance indicators.

Does a high BR Index guarantee strong visibility with AI agents?

A high score indicates you meet most best practices for being understood and highlighted by AI agents. Naturally, factors like competition, the constant evolution of algorithms, and content quality still matter. However, a high BR Index significantly increases your chances of being mentioned and indexed by generative AI tools.

How do I get started analyzing my site?

It couldn’t be simpler! Head over to BotRank.ai (or the dedicated page) and initiate an audit in just a few clicks. In a matter of seconds, you’ll receive your BR Index score along with concrete recommendations for improvement.
